Well, just to chime in about Power/Sail hybrids, one of these pulled onto 
my dock a couple of months ago.  I saw it under sail on the south bay last 
month, but he was going north when I was going south, so I didn't get to 
see if I was faster (grin.)

I stop and look at it once a week, and can see that it might just be a 
*great* boat for downwind cruising, and in Mexico during the winter when 
there often is little breeze.  But for the life of me I can't imagine 
sailing a boat where you can't see the shape of the main.

It's probably out of the price range of the 80's Catalina/Hunter/C&C 
discussion.
