don't forget the jacketed exhaust manifold.

You'll also need a bell housing with that Surplus Centre motor.
Our local engine guy usually has a few used Hurth gearboxes sitting around.

        Cheers, Russ

  Bill,

Ok, I'll bite. I don't see marinizing to be that huge a deal, its simply adding a heat exchanger and a pump, but where would you get a transmission?

Here's a nice 26 hp Kubota, but you will have to marinize it.

I'll bet Joe Demeres at Sound Diesel could put a 27hp Kubota Beta in there for around 7 - 8 K
My boat neighbor lost his tranny last summer in a Tartan 41, to salvage the summer, had a tranny flown over from Italy and the local yard guy worked on fitting it in (with blood, sweat, and tears) for twice as long as it took me to remove my old Perkins and install a new Kubota. Then, in August after looking at mine, he ordered a new Kubota W/Tranny - he will have three times the installation cost than if he had just bit the bullet at the get go.
Nothing like the feeling of purring out of the slip with a smooth, dependable engine.

   Jeff,

Sounds like you must be at McMichaels.

Another good diesel guy closer to you than Stratford is John Palermo at Harbor's End Marine Service in Cos Cob, CT 203-618-0750

Do not know how familiar he is with Universals but he is only 20 minutes max. from you. He did some work on my Yanmar last summer, and he did the legwork and tracked down a rebuilt engine to replace a blown one for a friend's boat as a new engine was not in the cards.
BTW - the fellow at Sound Marine Diesel is Joe DeMers and he is located up in Portland, CT just south of Hartford. He is a Beta Marine engine dealer.

   Good Luck,
   Brian
