I use the Navionics app on mine more for daydreaming in the office than for doing much of anything on the boat. Still well worth $10.

Thanks, but antidote was the word I was looking for. A remedy for your objection. Meanwhile, I think that a dedicated GPS designed for the environment where it will be used is a much better idea. I really don't see an iPhone as a viable alternative. :-)
