I use the Navionics app on mine more for daydreaming in the office than for doing much of anything on the boat. Still well worth $10.

Thanks, but antidote was the word I was looking for. A remedy for your objection. Meanwhile, I think that a dedicated GPS designed for the environment where it will be used is a much better idea. I really don't see an iPhone as a viable alternative. :-)

Rather than 'antidote', I think the word you're looking for is
prophylactic, and like most prophylactics I'm aware of, there isn't
sufficient sensation through the barrier to operate the touch screen
to ultimate satisfaction. And if it doesn't work as well (or feel as
good) through such a prophylactic, you won't want to use it
(especially if your 'navigation' is preceded by a few beers), and if
you don't use it, you're not protected. And if you're not protected,
who knows what your ipod will catch? - perhaps a few drops of fatal
saltwater.

Cheers

Here's where you can go wrong.

Saltwater can kill an iphone in nothing flat.
