I have the same question. If I buy a boat in MD, and leave it there, Do I pay the excise tax.
Is there personal property tax on boats in MD. If so what is the rate.
thanks

Tom,
If the transaction takes place in MD, does the state charge a sales tax and waive the excise tax?

Brad,
The State of Maryland does not put a sales tax on the boat you bought out of state. They do have a 5% Excise Tax of Purchase Price. They give you credit for a Trade-in on the Net Purchase Price. They have a Title Fee of $2.00 and a Registration Fee of $24.00 for 2 Years. The nearest office is in Bel Air and their number is 410-836-4550.
