 My first autopilot was a Autohelm. Its knickname was R2D2. My second autopilot 
was autohelm. Its nickname was R2D3. My next autopilot was a Nabico.  Its 
nickname was sh_ _head. Dosen't sound like the company has changed at all.

My 2 cents worth...Just recently had dealings with the consumer support people 
at Navico (which owns Lowrance) when a Lowrance gps I had failed after less than 
20 uses. Though I understood the one year warranty had just expired (don't they 
always just before a breakdown?) and I was willing to pay for some repair, they 
basically wanted the equivalent of the  price of a new unit to fix this faulty 
one. When I explained that this gps unit (which suffered absolutely no  abuse) 
had failed after less than 20 uses and, therefore, must have had an inherent 
problem, they just kept quoting the exorbitant repair price (and very high s&h 
cost).  A price way to high to pay to fix it...especially when you can purchase 
a cheaper competitor unit elsewhere. They just didn't seem to want to address 
that the gps unit may have been defective at the offset...they just didn't want 
to take any  responsibility for it.. they just seemed to want the repair cash 
grab.

This experience leads me to believe Navico does not have very good quality 
control nor do they appear to stand behind their products nor truly believe in 
their "Customer Satisfaction" policy (there appears to be many a complaint with 
customer service etc on the net since Navico took over). Given the lack of 
reliability of their product and my negative dealings with their customer 
service department, I would, instead, consider dealing with a more reliable and 
responsible company.  


But again, just my experience.

describe. That is NOT the same thing as what Garmin includes with units such as 
the GPSMAP 546 which are fully detailed real charts of the entire US coasts.
