I can only speak for western Lake Superior, but September is my favorite time. Heads up on weather: when it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's really bad.

If you were thinking Upper Peninsula and Georgian Bay, maybe late July or 
August, Stu could comment about Georgian Bay. 
Like mentioned, First half of September can be beautiful for Southern areas 
of the lakes, but also be prepared for occasional storms and cooldown.

my wife had the idea to charter a boat (optimum of cause a C&C 34) for 
one week on the great lakes. The problem is the time. We would like to 
go there in the autumn, but what time is the best? Is middle of 
September still ok?
